Program Director
Mike started with MRC in the summer of 2016 bringing with him a background in Music Production and Audio Engineering and more than 20 years of experience in various music scenes. Mike brings a unique approach to education in the audio fields and a curiosity of new audio technologies, constantly pushing the boundaries of how we think about sound. Mike is also a father of three and a lover of coffee.

Brooke Chapman Correll fell in love with rock ’n’ roll early in life thanks to her teenage siblings’ hand-me-down record players and 45’s. A former VP Marketing at MTV: Music Television, Correll is currently a Charlottesville-based branding consultant working with a hive of colleagues in San Francisco, New York and Chicago. She’s lectured and taught MBA’s at Duke, Stanford and Darden. On the side, Correll teaches SLOGA®: fun, musically-infused yoga classes. For more information visit www.killerbc.com.
Secretary
Todd is a Senior Program Associate at the Oak Hill Fund whose mission is to promote the well-being of mankind through effective and inspiring grant-making. He is an active member of the music scene in town and is a former Director at Music Today. Todd is a dedicated steward of board best practices and governance for our Center.

John is a web developer, singer, husband, and father of two wonderful boys. He strongly believes in the power of music to change lives, providing gratuitous levity, and the oxford comma.

Jason was a session bassist in LA and Denver where he learned his way around a professional recording studio. He currently owns and runs his own independent studio in North Garden, Va., and continues to play the bass with his family and friends. He knows first hand the power of music to heal, to unite completely different people, and to empower those who feel left aside or who haven’t had the chance to show the community the voice they have inside of them.

Before joining BackStory, Jamal Millner spent 20 years as a professional guitarist, producer and composer touring North America, Africa, Australia and Europe. He has performed with Taj Mahal, Vusi Mahlasela, Ali Farka Toure’, Dave Matthews Band, Corey Harris, John Jackson, Nicholas Payton, and countless others on stage and in the studio. Jamal has performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, Byron Bay Blues Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Jamal is also an accomplished audio engineer with credits on numerous works in various genres and forms of media.

I have lived in Cville since the early 60’s, attended city schools and UVA, worked for Martin Horn since 1983, president since 2000. Oversaw construction on projects such as the Charlottesville Pavilion, The Jefferson Theater, and the MRC. I serve on the boards of BGF, VSH, the B & G Club. I love food, music and travel. And volunteering.

Colleen Minnock Chulis is a Vice President at TransPerfect, the world’s largest privately held provider of language services and technology solutions, based in NYC. Colleen is a proud mother of 3, loves Cville, and sang before she could talk.

Ben is a communications strategist, songwriter, and graduate student in public policy at the University of Virginia’s Batten School. He previously served as the Director of Communications for Madison House, the student volunteer center at U.Va.

Mike is an attorney with Lenhart Pettit in Charlottesville and serves as legal council to the MRC. Mike has spent over five years on the MRC Board and is an active community advocate who also chairs the Legal and Policy Committee on the Board of St. Anne’s-Belfield School.

Bill Bailey has been the VP of Sales and Marketing for Kraft Foods, head of his own marketing firm, a musician and music teacher and currently holds the titles of father of a musician, grandfather and proprietor of Bailey’s Retreat and Guest Houses based in Ivy on land his family has owned for over a century. Bill is a strong advocate of young musicians and is dedicated to helping them market themselves and their music through the MRC.

Rick is an avid music and sports enthusiast, an Analyst at QIM, member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters board and father to Lucy, 2. Rick believes that music has the ability to transcend socioeconomic boundaries and change communities and that change is most effective when it starts with the youth of our communities.

Chad is Managing Director responsible for Private Equity investments at Investure in Charlottesville, an avid music enthusiast and father of two; Chad’s goal is to impact the lives of teens in under-resourced neighborhoods through the power of musical education.

A founding partner at PlusTick Partners, a Charlottesville-based private investment firm, accomplished guitarist and father of 3; Adrian is dedicated to bringing musical education to teens in our community regardless of socioeconomic status.
Marketing & Communications Director
Lucas is a guitarist, singer & composer who started at the MRC as a member circa 2005. With a degree in Music & Music Business from NYU, a foot in the local music scene as leader of the rock band, Breakers, and experience in various facets of the music industry, Lucas hopes to educate and help students navigate their way through the ever-changing, ever-expanding world of music.
Membership Coordinator, Dance Instructor
Ike began his dancing career over fifteen years ago as a former MRC member and now serves as our dance and digital music production instructor as well as our Membership Coordinator. He is well known in the community for his choreography for local theater and high school productions as well as for his acting. Ike enjoys watching MRC’s students grow and develop as they spend time in the Center. He brings a unique perspective to the MRC approach having experienced the program on both sides as a student and instructor.
Executive Director
Alice Fox became the Executive Director of the MRC in September 2016 but has been a part of the MRC since 2013 when she joined the planning committee for Party Like a Rock Star(PLARS). Alice has been a part of PLARS ever since and was invited to join the MRC board in 2015. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Masters in Clinical Psychology with a focus on child development. Alice is also the proud mom of 3 children.
